Adult Autism Evaluations

Bright Futures Team-Adult Autism Evaluations

At Bright Futures, we understand that many people have reached adulthood without recognizing or understanding their neurodivergence. Thankfully there is an increase in adult autistics sharing their experiences, and the understanding of neurodivergence is expanding among professionals and society as a whole. This has paved the way for many adults to begin to wonder if there is an explanation for the challenges they have faced throughout their lives.

As an adult, it can be challenging to find an evaluator willing to meet with you. We recognize that within the autistic community, self-diagnosis is considered valid. However, it may be necessary to have a formal diagnosis to get accommodations from colleges/universities and employers, or you may just want to a have your experiences and concerns validated through a more formal process.

We offer two options:

The first is to meet with a clinician over 2-4 sessions for an in-depth clinical interview to explore your childhood, developmental history, behavioral concerns, sensory challenges, etc. It is best to have a parent or caregiver available to participate, if possible, in order to share their insight as well. However, this is not necessary and if it is preferred that a parent or caregiver not participate, this will not preclude the evaluation from being completed. This option works well for older adults who are not pursuing higher education. Sessions are billed at 135.00/hour and a written report is an additional 135.00. We are out-of-network with insurance companies but can offer a superbill for potential out-of-network reimbursement. Codes are provided to you so that you can check with your insurance carrier (Bright Futures does not work with insurance companies). A credit card, HSA, or FSA is kept o file and billed at the end of the week.

The second option includes the completion of the ADOS-2, which is about an hour of semi-facilitated activities, in addition to a clinical interview, ADIR, with a parent or caregiver(s). This interview is about 2.5 hours. This option works will for young adults who are pursuing higher education, entering the workforce, not yet employed, or underemployed. It would also include completion of inventories such as the SRS-2. A complete evaluation with medical sign-off and detailed report with recommendations is 1700.00. Clients are charged in full on the day of the evaluation. A superbill can be provided.

These evaluations include completion of online assessments at embraceautism.com. These assessments are also a good place to start if you are considering if you may be autistic and are deciding whether or not to pursue a formal diagnosis.
